West Ardnamurchan Community Resilience Plan

This resilience plan has been drawn up collectively by WACC, the West Ardnamurchan Community Development Company and members of our local community.

Please note that the plan is neither exhaustive nor exclusive, and is not set in stone. It is intended as a ‘living’ document and will be reviewed, updated and adapted/amended as may be required, to meet the ever-developing challenges we’re all facing.
We have accumulated a long list of volunteers’ names from within the West Ardnamurchan community, all offering their help in delivering the plan and who can be called upon as required.

If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me or our Chair, Rosie Curtis, and we hope sincerely that you and your families all manage to stay safe and well.

Coronavirus/ Covid 19
West Ardnamurchan Community Resilience Plan
March 2020

During this coronavirus pandemic we are making arrangements to look after our community in the event of people needing to self-isolate and to care for those who are vulnerable.
For further information about the virus and any updates visit the NHS website at
https://www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/infections-and-poisoning/coronavirus-covid19

1. Those self-isolating

Government advice is that the over 70’s and those with underlying health conditions should self-isolate for the foreseeable future as well as anyone who shows any symptoms of the virus. We are allocating Area co-ordinators and recruiting volunteers to provide the support which may be needed. It is useful for us to know what support you would like so let us know.

The following arrangements are being made to support these people:

Shopping:  The Ferry Stores within Kilchoan will arrange delivery. Contact Morag or David on 01972 510310
There is a regional shortage of formula baby milk. Sarah Houston is co-ordinating the collection/delivery of supplies. Tel: Sarah on 07817 404196 or Olivia at 07379 352067

Prescriptions: Jessie Colquhoun will be organising delivery of prescriptions from both Kilchoan and Acharacle practices. To contact her tel: 01972 510204 or 07765989692.

Carer visits: If Carers who are providing regular visits to residents fall ill and are unable to visit, Jessie Colquhoun and Rosie Curtis will be notified by the NHS and you will be contacted and told of about any changes to the arrangements or personnel.

Health Concerns: As now, ring NHS Direct on 111 or in an emergency ring 999.
Our excellent Emergency Responders will be on hand as needed.

Any changes to surgery opening times will be notified but if you suspect you have the coronavirus do not attend the surgery but self-isolate. You should ring 111 if you are concerned.

Power cuts/heating In the event of power cuts or lack of fuel for cooking and heating, we are collecting a list of all the working generators available in the community that can be moved to the people most in need. Contact your allocated volunteer or area co-ordinator (See below).

Isolation and mental health: Self-isolating for an extended period can be a lonely business. If you would like to receive regular phone calls contact your Area Co-ordinator or Rev Fiona Ogg on 01967 431 654 or at
fionaogg@gmail.com

Other Services: The Kilchoan Hotel, the Natural History Visitor Centre and the Puffin Café are all going to be offering a takeaway service on certain days and times. The Kilchoan Hotel will be offering a delivery service for those self-isolating or house-bound.

For more information contact:
Kilchoan Hotel: 01972 510200 or
info@kilchoanhotel.co.uk
Natural History Visitor Centre:

Puffin Café: 07379 352067

For those nearer Salen and Acharacle, we understand that both these shops will be offering a delivery service.

2. Co-ordinators and Volunteers

If you are well and able to help with any aspect of this plan please let the people named below know that you are available and give them your contact details. We will be looking for everyone to keep a check on those self-isolating or vulnerable to see if they have all they need and are keeping well but in addition we need people for specific tasks e.g. willing to collect and deliver shopping from the Ferry Stores; collect and deliver prescriptions; possibly walk a dog or help with other practical tasks.

If you can help with shopping deliveries from the Ferry Stores, contact David and Morag on 01972 510201

If you are a Community Minibus Driver and would be willing to go out of the area to collect supplies where there is a shortage, please let us know.

There may be a need to help with livestock so if you have experience of this please let your area co-ordinator know.
